Finding Clarity Through Diagnostic Intelligence and IQ Testing

Understanding cognitive strengths and needs is an important part of supporting growth and self-confidence. At Aspire Child & Family Services, we provide diagnostic intelligence and IQ testing services that are rooted in compassion, expertise, and respect. Whether you are seeking answers for a child, an adolescent, or yourself, our testing process offers clarity and guidance for every stage of life.

Understanding Diagnostic Intelligence Testing

Diagnostic intelligence testing, often called cognitive assessment, is a way to learn more about how an individual reasons, learns, and processes information. These assessments measure areas such as verbal comprehension, working memory, problem solving, and processing speed.

At Aspire Child & Family Services, we view these results as more than scores. We use them to create a fuller picture of a person’s unique abilities and potential. Our goal is to gain insights into areas of strength and to identify areas requiring further support to empower each individual and their family with knowledge and understanding that can support decision-making and planning.

Why IQ Testing Matters Across the Lifespan

Intelligence testing can be helpful at many different stages of life. For children, it can highlight learning styles, strengths, and areas that may need additional support in school. For adolescents, it can guide educational planning and build confidence during an important developmental stage. For adults, IQ testing can support career planning, provide insight into cognitive changes, or simply bring clarity about personal strengths.

Across the lifespan, these assessments give families and individuals the reassurance of knowing more about how the mind works. With that clarity comes peace of mind and the opportunity to move forward with greater confidence.

Our Compassionate Approach to Diagnostic Testing

We are more than an ABA agency. At Aspire Child & Family Services, every assessment is guided by warmth, respect, and compassion. From the first phone call, our team listens carefully to your concerns and goals. We make sure the testing environment feels calm, welcoming, and supportive.

We understand that diagnostic testing can feel overwhelming at first. That is why our approach is centered on reassurance. We take the time to explain the process, answer questions, and provide clear feedback in language that is easy to understand.

Types of Intelligence Tests We Offer

Wechsler Scales

WPPSI-IV (Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, Fourth Edition): Ages 2:6–7:7
Assesses early cognitive skills including language, reasoning, visual–spatial abilities, working memory, and processing speed.

WISC-V (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition): Ages 6:0–16:11
Measures five core areas Verbal Comprehension, Visual Spatial, Fluid Reasoning, Working Memory, and Processing Speed to provide a comprehensive view of cognitive strengths and weaknesses.

WAIS-IV (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale – Fourth Edition): Ages 16:0–90:11
Evaluates adult cognitive functioning across Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Reasoning, Working Memory, and Processing Speed.

Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities

The Woodcock-Johnson IV Tests of Cognitive Abilities provide another highly respected way of measuring intellectual skills across the lifespan. This assessment looks at a wide range of thinking abilities, including reasoning, processing speed, auditory and visual processing, memory, and executive functioning.

Because it includes both broad and narrow measures, the Woodcock-Johnson offers a very detailed profile of cognitive strengths and weaknesses. It is particularly helpful when evaluating:

  • Learning disabilities and academic challenges
  • Giftedness and advanced learning abilities
  • Neurocognitive functioning as part of a more comprehensive assessment

Nonverbal Intelligence Tests

For children or adults who have speech or language difficulties, hearing impairments, or are English-language learners, traditional IQ tests may not give the full picture. In these cases, nonverbal intelligence tests provide an equitable way to measure problem-solving and reasoning skills without relying heavily on language.

Common nonverbal assessments include:

  • Leiter International Performance Scale (Leiter-3): A completely nonverbal test of reasoning, attention, and memory.
  • Test of Nonverbal Intelligence (TONI-4): A quick assessment of abstract problem-solving using shapes and patterns.
  • Universal Nonverbal Intelligence Test (UNIT-2): Measures reasoning, memory, and symbolic thinking without the need for spoken responses.

These assessments are especially valuable for:

  • Children with limited verbal ability or speech delays
  • Students who are bilingual or English-language learners
  • Individuals with autism spectrum disorder or other communication differences

Additional Cognitive Assessments

When needed, we include additional neuropsychological or cognitive tests. These may look at memory, attention, or executive functioning. Each assessment is chosen thoughtfully to best support the individual’s unique needs.

Who Benefits From Our IQ Test Services

Children and Adolescents Testing

Early diagnostic insight can help families make informed choices about school support, accommodations, and learning strategies. Knowing a child’s intellectual profile can reduce stress and open doors to resources that truly fit their needs.

Adult and Lifespan Assessment

Adults also benefit from intelligence testing. Some seek answers about strengths to guide career changes. Others may want to better understand shifts in memory or processing speed. Whatever the reason, we offer compassionate, respectful support that focuses on clarity and empowerment.

What to Expect: The Diagnostic Testing Process

Initial Consultation

The process begins with a warm consultation. During this time, we listen to your questions and learn about your goals. This helps us choose the best assessment approach for your situation.

Assessment Session

Testing is completed in a calm, supportive environment. Each step is explained so you always know what to expect. Our clinicians focus on making the experience comfortable and reassuring.

Feedback and Report

After testing, you receive a clear and detailed report. We schedule a feedback session (in-person or virtual) to walk through the results together. This conversation is an opportunity to ask questions and explore next steps in a supportive way.
